::: Links :::This section contains a collection of links to web pages that I frequent from time to time. Lots of movie and television websites as well as a few cool gaming pages. |
::: Media :::LPF is proud to announce a new section of the web site. Marc D's reviews. Stop by often to see which movies he's checking out this week. If you love movies the way I do then you may get a kick out of my new movies section. It is filled with my own little reviews of stuff that rule as well as movies that suck. |
::: Gallery :::This section is now where you will find all sorts of weird experiments including the once internationally famous Kryptonite Handbook. I've also create a new page just dedicated to video games I like. From time to time I plan to post little nuggets of goodness there. SO stay tuned. |
:::News:::(10.20.10) I'm bored at work today, so I thoughted I'd play around with some CSS to try and learned something. (01.28.09)New Year, new host, new site. (06.12.08)Oh yeah, I have a blog. Collect All 12. It's the greatest blog ever!! (01.10.08)The past few weeks I have discovered an excellent new website for trading away old video games. The website is called Goozex and the idea is you post games you no longer play (Xbox, PS2, Nintento and when someone wants the game they contact you and you send it to them. Once they receive the game you get points to use on the website for requesting new games. The site works very well and i have been pleasantly surprised by how good the selection is. Check it out. (11.02.07)An interesting collection of PDFS and Speeches by Henry Merritt Wriston president of both Brown University and Lawrence University. PDFS (01.03.05)Happy New Year!!! I hope everyone is doing well. By the way I wanted to mentioned that I have relaunched the one and only original ShowcaseFloyd, your free online comic book price guide. Ch-Ch-Check it out. I will be back soon with some more updates and stuff. (09.15.04)Well, it's been over a month since my last update, but that is only because I have been so busy. Beside from finishing up a 550 piece jigsaw puzzle with my girlfriend, I have been reading The Da Vinci Code and working on writing a spec TV Pilot. In between that I took a weekend trip up to Burlington, VT, visited the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory, attended half of a Yankee's Double hitter on Labor Day and went to the movies four times. On yeah and I had a birthday. Not bad for just about one month, huh?
Next I sat through Vanity Fair starring that chick from Legally Blond 2. I saw this movie with my mom and dad. I really don't think either of them liked it, especially my dad who kept sighing ever ten minutes. To be honest the movie is very long (about three hours) and totally confusing. But I have always enjoyed period dramas and was not as bored as most of the people I saw the film with. We ended up seeing Hero the next night because the only other choice was the new Josh Harnet film Wicker Park, which I could tell was terrible. Hero is a martial arts movie from China, but it has a cool story about a group of assassins out to kill one very well protected king. I have read about this movie on the internet for a while, and was happy to finally see it. I thought it was great, and very fun. My only criticism was the over use of slow motion. Slow motion in a movie should be used like self tanner, if your going to use it, be subtle about it. Okay, I have to go, but I'll be back when I've finally finished that jigsaw puzzle. (08.05.04)Saw a really funny movie on Saturday night called Napoleon Dynamite. (08.04.04)Although, I usually spend most of my time on this web site talking about movies, I wanted to talk about a couple of records I have been listening to non-stop this summer. The first is the new Beastie Boys record, To The Five Boroughs. The second record I have been cranking up in the car, is Guns n' Roses : Appetite For Destruction. I had not really listen to this record all the much since it was popular. I don't know what made me want to listen to it again anyway. I guess the nostalgia of listening to the Beastie Boys again and watching Beavis n' Butthead on MTV2 has done me in. Anyway, there's no point in me mentioning how great this album is because I'm sure everyone already knows. It is of course a classic. What's next? Maybe i'll start breaking out those old Pearl Jam records again. Well maybe not right now. (07.29.04)As we head into the weekend there are a bunch of new movies opening. I guess I'll probably try and see The Village which I have read some mixed reviews for so far. My favorite place to read movie reviews is probably Rotten Tomatoes. If you have never been there they basically collect reviews from all over the internet and give the movie a score based on how many positive vs. negative reviews a film gets. If a movie scores about a 60 it is considered a good movie, anything less then that is considered a bad movie. Since I started reading reviews on their site a few years ago, I feel that they are hardly ever wrong. I am not that hard of a critic when it comes to movies. There are a lot of crappy movies I like for one reason or another. I have friends who are the opposite of me. They tend to hate everything. When I was in high school and college I went through a phase like that. I hated a lot of movies I saw. But after a while I didn't like going to the movies anymore. What's the point if I was going to hate it anyway? Now, I feel differently. Movies are so expensive these days, I feel like if I'm going to spend the money I better enjoy it. (07.27.04)Well, the biggest thing to happen to my town in like 20 years opens tomorrow. What is this momentous occasion you ask? One word : IKEA. Oh Yeah!!! The swedish super store is coming finally to my area. If you can't already tell I'm pretty excited about it. Why would a furniture store make me happy? Well, there are a lot of reasons, but one is this fantasy I've always had about furnishing my entire home with affordable cool looking furniture. Not that it is ever going to happen. For two reasons. One is the fact that right now I don't have enough money to buy an IKEA t-shirt let alone a piece of furniture. The second is my girlfriend. She actually starts to gag when I even mention the name of the store. She has some different opinions then I do on what is cool. Of course we have a lot of different opinions on what is cool including movies, music and how to cook vegetables. Anyway, I personally think you need to check it out for yourself. So, if you have never been to one of their furniture stores before, I recommend it. It's a lot of fun to just walk around in. By the way this is not a paid endorsement, I'm juts a fan. By the way, if you have been missing Beavis and Butthead as much as I have lately. Have no fear. You can find them now playing again on MTV2. That is if you happen to get MTV2. Now if they will only bring back Kid Notorious. (07.22.04)So it has been a big month for me. I finally moved into a new place. The move was kind of a pain in the ass, since my new apartment is on the second floor. Anyone who has ever tried to move large furniture up a flight of stairs knows what I'm talking about. It sucks!!! I now believe that furniture movers deserve every dollar they can get. Not that I can afford to pay one, but if I could I would happily do it. I wanted to mention a great comedy that I went to see a few weeks ago called Saved! starring former child star Macaulay Culkin and teen pop star Mandy Moore. The movie is a comedy about teenagers who attend a Baptist high school. The story revolves around one of the students who ends up getting pregnant after sleeping with her boyfriend for the first time. I loved the movie, it was clever and although it's message was a little heavy handed at times, I felt it did a great job of pointing out the irony of people who use religion to justify being cruel to people they care about. Well worth checking out. Last but not least. I saw Prince in concert at the Meadowlands in N.J. last Friday night. I don't go to many concerts (mainly because it costs a fortune) but when I do I usually have a much better time then I would expect. This was the case with Prince. It's not like I'm a huge fan. I own a copy of the Purple Rain Soundtrack on vinyl that I got as a birthday gift when I was 13, but not much else. He performed a lot of hits which where great to hear live. Allot of as a part of an acoustic set he did in the middle of the show. That was probably may favorite part. The worst part of the show where any of his new songs which I found pretty boring. (Sorry Prince) I was really disappointment that he did not perform any cuts from the Tim Burton Batman Soundtrack. It would have been great to hear him do Batdance live. (07.06.04)Saturday night my girlfriend and I saw Spider-Man 2, thanks to a two for one coupon she had. As a comic book geek I always shudder when I know Hollywood is going to make a movie out of one of my favorite characters, but I am happy to announce that despite a couple of stupid moments the movie pretty much kicked ass. If I had one problem with the movie it was the fact Spider-Man takes his mask off so many times, I'm surprised that by the end of the film the entire city doesn't know he is really Peter Parker. Minor detail I guess. Both of us were excited to see that Michael Chabon (the genius behind The Adventures Of Kaviler and Clay -- now also a comic book) was a writer on the film. Not that the writing was so brilliant. I mean one of the biggest laughs in the film is when Spidey admits to comic Hal Sparks while standing in an elevator that his costume is riding up in the crotch. I also want to say that I felt Alfred Molina did an amazing job as the villain Dr Ock. But it was a little strange seeing him up on the screen robbing banks and beating people up, because only a few weeks ago I had seen him stomping around and singing "If I Were A Rich Man" on Broadway in a revival of Fiddler on the Roof which he was nominated for a Tony award. This is, by the way, a big new trend in Hollywood. Currently, Hugh Jackman who last summer he played the tough as nails Wolverine in the movie X-Men is currently staring as flamboyant showman Peter Allen. Which is disturbing enough. One shudders to think how far this trend will go. What next ? Vin Diesel playing Prof. Harold Hill in The Music Man? It could happen. Ok, see you soon, and remember to wear your sun screen (SPF 15 or better). (05.25.04)Yes, it has been a while since I last updated, but I it's been worth the wait. Well summer is off to a bang. I have seen two of the big summer movies so far and I liked them both. First was the action movie Troy starring movie idol Brad Pitt. Now, I have no problem with Brad, and to be honest I thought he did an ok job. If the movie had any flaws I think many people might think the story was a little lame. But to me, I liked it for what it was, a big summer time movie with lots of action, big movie stars and cool special effects. Call me a sheep if you want to, but to me movies have always been about one thing. Entertainment. Plus, when I do see a movie in the theater I want to see something that you should see on a big screen. Not long ago my girlfriend and I saw Hellboy at the IMAX and I have to tell you that's a movie to see on the big screen. The next movie I saw recently was Shrek 2 and as my girlfriend likes to point out I didn't love the first one too much. But I think maybe time has changed my opinion slightly and to be honest I don't remember the first one all that well now anyway. So my review? I loved it. Was it better then the first? You bet. But this movie is also geared a little more toward adults then the first one, and to me felt like a giant episode of the Simpsons with all the inside jokes and references to other movies. Anyhow, thats the current wrap up. The sun is starting to really come out and that means summer is here at last. (02.03.04)I know I haven't been updating allot in the past few months, but its not like I get a lot of people reading my website anyway. So just a few high lites. First, the Patriots won the Superbowl Sunday night for the second time in three years. Way to go Tom Brady! My favorite movie of the entire year was easily Big Fish. In my opinion this was easily the best picture of the year. It wasn't even nominated. Instead Seabiscuit was. Now that's just plain stupid. I have posted this years Oscar nominations up on my about page. (In case you have been living under a rock or something). Micheal Jackson, Robert Blake, and Martha Stewart are all on trial. And well it's winter again and although I have been skiing a lot lately I still hate the cold weather. (11.17.03)OK, Thanksgiving is right around the corner. I just thought I would mention two movies I saw recently. The first is ELF, which I have to admit I really enjoyed. There's nothing particularly special about it, except that Will Ferrel really delivers. He's very funny, and in my opinion the movie works because of him. The other is Love Actually. Another romantic comedy from those Brits who made Four Weddings a Funeral. I sort of wanted to see this because the trailer to me looked good. It was a total chic flick and I liked that way the story' so many plot lines tied together. Oh yeah, the Yankees lost to The Florida Marlines. In some ways I feel it was my fault. I kept wishing for a game six and which brought the Yankees bad luck. To repay me for my actions the Baseball gods looked down at me and laughed. Never again. I won't mention this subject again. (10.23.03)We were sitting around work today talking about those funny Budweiser "Real American Hero" commercials. Well after a quick search of the net I found an entire site where all of them are listed. Very funny stuff. Check it out. Mindless Crap Let's Go Yankees!!!! (10.20.03)Start spreading the news... Ok, I'm really excited this week, because the Yankees are in the World Series. If they win this will be there 27th title. Lets keep our fingers crossed. This week I saw the new Cohen Brother's flick Intolerable Cruelty which I thought was great. I also wanted to mention that I saw Kill Bill weekend. To be honest I was slightly disappointed. It felt like half a movie. Oh yeah it was. I guess I won't be able to say what I really thought until the entire thing is out on DVD and I have had a chance to sit and watch it. Finally a big shout out this week to my good friend Meredith. (09.07.03)New gaming page up. Not much to say about this except that from time to time I will post up bits about games I am currently playing. (08.20.03)Quick update. I read on the internet today that movie industry executives where blaming the poor ticket sells of movies this summer on people text messaging. One industry executive was quoted as saying that kids where sending text messages to their friends about the pro quality of the movie while they were still watching it. Thus the film was not getting enough of a chance for kids to actually pay $9.75 to see for themselves that it was actually a bad movie. Good Stuff. (08.05.03)Well, it's already August and September is fast approaching. My favorite part of the fall has always been that all the TV networks finally have new programs on. The sad thing is I don't watch any of them. I hardly watch any TV anymore. Well expect for some reality shoes and Comedy Central. The truth is I always find reruns a little depressing. Honestly, the best shows on TV right now are on Comedy Central. South Park just keeps getting better, I'm With Busey is hysterical, Daily Show is great, The Chappell Show is funnier then any sketch comedy show on TV right now, and RENO 911 is awesome. If only they would bring back Dr. Katz life would be perfect. (07.29.03)Well July is almost over, and that means one more month to go until its time to go back to school. When I was 10 or 11 that was the most exciting thing in the world. Today the most exciting thing in the world for me is weather there is a new episode of Smallville on Wednesday night Man how life changes. Anyway, enough of the depressing stuff. Last month I spent I finally built myself a new PC. Its not that the old one was that bad it's just that I couldn't play any good games on it. The video card was to old, and the my hard drive was crap. Anyhow, I wanted to mention a great site for Hardware Reviews, Motherboards.Org. It's a great place to also get help if your having trouble with hard ware. Great site. (07.25.03)People say to me all the time. Why do you use an OS like linux. Well the truth is I actually use more then one Operating System. I have three computers at home. One of them is a Linux machine (or box as they say) and two are Windows machines. Personally I would like to use just one Operating system. But each one offers different advantages. In fact as I write this, I'm working on a Mac running OS X, and if I could afford it I would buy one of these as well. But to get back to the original question, the thing I love the most is the Open source projects. The amount of cool software projects under development is mind blowing. One I stumbled upon this week over at Happy Penguin is something called Tenebrae. This is really cool. Developers have taken the original Quake source code and updated it to use some really cool effects. If you have seen any of the early Doom 3 images. You'll get the idea, (07.22.03)After getting like 50 e-mails asking why I haven't updated the site in a while (what it's only been 5 months?!) I decided to check in and say hello. After making a quick tour of the country I'm back on the East Coast, and although the Mexican food isn't as good here, I'm happy to report that I'm glad to be home. My most current project is helping my buddies in the band "Strikes Again" set up their little website. Check it out. |
